When your hat is too tight... or floats slightly

Finding the perfect size isn't always enough to guarantee a perfect fit. At JJ Hat Center, we offer sizes ranging from 52 to 65 cm (20.5 to 25.5 inches), to suit all body types. On average, women wear sizes ranging from 55 to 57 cm, while men generally fall between 56 and 59 cm. And for larger heads, we offer extended sizes up to XXXL (64–65 cm).

However, even with the right size, the unique shape of each head or the natural shrinkage of materials can compromise comfort. The result: a hat that slips or feels tight. What can you do without giving up your favorite style?

Two elegant solutions are available: the hat stretcher and the cork reducer strips. These discreet and ingenious accessories allow for a custom fit without compromising style.

Is your hat too tight? Use a stretcher

Hat Stretcher

Over time, humidity, perspiration, or rain can cause your hat to shrink slightly. A hat stretcher is the perfect tool to restore it to its original shape or enlarge it by half a size, while respecting the fibers of the fabric.

How to use it:

  1. Place the spacer inside the hat, snug.
  2. Gently turn the handle to apply even pressure.
  3. Gradually stretch until you reach your desired size (never go beyond a whole size).
  4. Repeat if necessary for optimal comfort.

Is Your Hat Too Loose? Cork Band to the Rescue

Cork Strip Inlays

THE Cork inserts – also known as cork strips – offer a stylish and immediate solution for reducing the inner circumference by approximately 0.5 to 1 cm – without altering the look of your headwear.

Instructions for use:

  1. Slide the cork strips behind the inner strip, at the front and back (forehead and neck).
  2. For more oval heads, position them on the sides.
  3. Always point the ends upwards, in a smile shape, for optimal support.

Good to know: For every hat with an inner band purchased at JJ Hat Center, we offer two free cork bands—because comfort deserves excellence, down to the smallest details.
